Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Starting September 1, 2025, UCare will no longer offer Medicaid and MinnesotaCare coverage in several counties, including Wadena. This change is expected to impact about 88,000 Medicaid enrollees across the state.
I want to reassure residents that there should not be a disruption in coverage. UCare is working with the Minnesota Department of Human Services and local counties to transition affected individuals to other health plans. Other providers, including Medica, will step in to cover areas UCare is exiting.
This change is not the result of federal cuts or any actions by the Trump Administration. UCare made the decision after reporting a $504 million operating loss in 2024, driven largely by low reimbursement rates in the Medicaid program.
If you or someone you know is affected, contact Wadena County Human Services or visit the DHS website to review updated plan options. Here are additional resources for more information, including a Medicaid carrier map and a MinnesotaCare carrier map. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter.
