Local government officials make key decisions that impact everything from the roads we drive on to the schools in our neighborhoods. Unfortunately, sometimes local leaders turn their focus away from local issues to push political agendas that hurt our communities.

That is what happened in a Pennsylvania town where the Board of Supervisors was becoming more and more extreme – and even cut funding to their local library after an LGBTQ+ event.

That is why we want to introduce you to Carly Abbott, who is running for East Hempfield Township Supervisor in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. She is running against MAGA Republican opponents including a “Moms for Liberty” candidate (Moms for Liberty is an org that advocates against any school curriculum that mentions LGBTQ rights, race and ethnicity, critical race theory, and discrimination).

Despite significant pushback from community members, the current all male board has drafted and enacted a resolution on immigration enforcement that was both hurtful and extreme – to end the town’s sanctuary status.

Local government is not the space for extremism or political overreach. It’s the place for responsible and logical decisions to help the people of its community.
