Lily* was only 11 years old when she clung to a promise – a sewing machine and a chance at school. To her, that meant a future beyond poverty and pain in Ghana.

Her dream was to become a dressmaker. But instead of classrooms and colorful fabrics, she found herself cooking for over 20 workers, pulling heavy fishing nets and enduring horrors no child should ever face.

“I looked at my situation,” Lily shared, “and questioned my existence – and why God created me into this world.”

Her days were filled with beatings and forced labor. At night, the fisherman and his sons would come to her room – her innocence stolen, her voice silenced by fear.
