Action Changes Things

“Shoes on, we’re getting in the car,” I said to my small children, helping wedge their chunky baby feet into their shoes one spring afternoon. I was doing it. I had made a promise to myself: if I was going to care enough, after complaining enough, about the things around me that needed changing, then I had to do something.

Back then, action meant driving to my local legislative district office to volunteer and help with yard signs. I had no idea that one small step would lead me to join the board, help flip three red legislative seats to blue, build lifelong friendships, and ultimately serve in the legislature, where my daily work has become the doing something.

This year, I’ve heard the same thing over and over from moms, neighbors, and old friends:

“I want to get involved, but I don’t know where to start.”

The truth is, with the right tools, some good people beside you, and a little bit of commitment, that spark inside you can lead to real, lasting change.

That’s exactly why we created Civic Spark ([link removed]) .
