We couldn’t be prouder to include these two women in the Arena alumni community. Jennifer Carroll Foy has transformed progressive politics in Virginia as a State Delegate. In 2017, Jennifer became the first public defender ever elected to the General Assembly. Since taking office, she has worked tirelessly to strengthen VA schools, prioritize clean air and water, reform the criminal justice system, and ratify the Equal Rights Amendment.
In May, she announced her candidacy for Governor of Virginia.
And last election cycle, Lina Hidalgo defeated an 11-year incumbent to become Harris County Judge, making her the executive of the country’s third-largest county. At 29 years old, she’s responsible for a $4.3 billion budget. Lina’s victory was considered an upset and attracted national attention, with a large and diverse coalition of activists and organizations leading her to a nearly 19,000 vote victory.
I hope you’ll join us for a conversation with these two brilliant women to hear their thoughts on what the next generation of leaders looks like and how we can help make that vision a reality.
