Before Donald Trump was even sworn in, the plan was clear: Fire everyone at the Social Security Administration, close the offices, and hand customer service to Elon Musk’s army of AI chatbots.

Elon Musk and Donald Trump may have had a public falling out, but that’s not stopping him from handing a $200 million defense contract to Musk’s bots:¹

That’s right―the same chatbot that just referred to itself as “MechaHitler”² is now weaseling its way into the government.

Musk’s plan is for this to just be his first government AI contract, not the last. And the strategy makes sense―he used his position at DOGE to fire thousands of staff, and now presents his malfunctioning tech as the fix. Even if it barely works, the price is much lower than hiring experienced, career civil servants. And if you only measure expenses, not whether or not people are getting the benefits they’ve paid into their whole lives, it might even appear “efficient.”

If this goes unchecked, we could have “MechaHitler” answering Social Security’s customer service number and even reviewing disability claims.
