John,
Just months after slashing $20 billion from the IRS to help wealthy tax cheats fly under the radar, Trump’s GOP is at it again, this time with a plan to claw back nearly $10 billion more in already-approved federal spending.[1][2]
The Senate is set to vote this week on a “rescissions” package that would decimate international public health programs, axe support for NPR and PBS, and derail community-led transportation and climate initiatives, all while the ultra-wealthy cash in on their big beautiful tax handouts at the expense of working people.[3]
The Trump administration already sat on these funds illegally, blocking their use for months before finally asking Congress to take back, or “rescind,” them.
They’re trying to rewrite spending laws after the fact, a clear threat to Congress’s power of the purse.
Tell the Senate to reject the rescissions package. This backdoor raid on public funds is a direct attack on our communities, meant to reward billionaires and punish everyone else.
These aren't unspent dollars sitting idly. They are funds Congress has already appropriated for HIV/AIDS prevention, peacekeeping, public broadcasting, clean transit, and reconnecting communities divided by highways.
These are investments that save lives and strengthen our infrastructure.Trump’s first budget eight years ago tried to gut them—and now he’s coming back to finish the job.
This is sabotage. Letting Trump claw back these funds retroactively opens the door to more illegal impoundments and undermines any bipartisan budget deal. If Trump doesn’t like a program in the future, he’ll just defund it, confident that Congress will eventually rubber stamp his decision.
This is the blueprint for authoritarian economic policy. Let billionaires hoard their wealth, starve the public sector, and let the Executive Branch treat Congress like an afterthought. We cannot let it stand.
Tell the Senate to vote NO on Trump’s $9.4 billion rescissions scam. These cuts are letting Trump and his billionaire donors rewrite the budget to serve their own interests, even after Congress has spoken.
Thank you for speaking out,
