Friend,

This moment demands action. The Trump administration is launching one of the most aggressive attacks on our civil and human rights in a generation. From voter suppression and criminalizing protest to targeting marginalized communities and slashing vital programs like Medicaid and SNAP, the Republican agenda is as dangerous as it is destructive.

While Trump tries to divide us, we’re coming together. This Thursday, July 17, the anniversary of Congressman John Lewis’ passing, we are working with partners across the nation to organize a powerful day of action. Will you stand with us at a Good Trouble Lives On event near you?

60 years ago, President Johnson called in the National Guard to protect civil rights marchers in Selma. Now, Trump is trying to deploy the Guard to stop protestors from using their voices. We can’t let that go unchecked.

This is a national day of nonviolent action to demand that Congress protect our freedom to vote, stand up to authoritarianism, and fight back against attacks on our communities from Black and Brown Americans to immigrants, LGBTQ+ folks, and working families.

Across the nation, we’ll rally, hold community events, and make it clear: In America, the power lies with the people.

So what do you think, want to make some Good Trouble together? Sign up for an event near you!

Let’s get into Good Trouble for democracy, for justice, and for each other.

With gratitude,

- Kristin, Olivia, Lauren, Monifa, Donna, Xochitl, Ruth, Sue Anne, and the MomsRising and MamásConPoder team

Subject: Join us in making Good Trouble on 7/17

Dear Friend,

Last week was a tough one. 17 million people are going to lose their healthcare due to Trump’s damaging domestic policy. [1] We may be feeling fury in our hearts, but there is hope in our souls. The full harm caused by the Republicans passing the Big Bad Betrayal Bill may be uncertain, but there are a few things we know for sure: a brighter future is possible and that together, we are powerful.

A lot of us are wondering: What do we do next? Let’s make some Good Trouble together.

We’re working with partners across the nation to organize a powerful day of action in honor of the late Congressman John Lewis, who regularly spoke of the power and importance of “Good Trouble”—and we’d love for you to be part of it. Can you join hundreds of thousands of people across the country in making Good Trouble and taking action on July 17th? RSVP to an activation near you.

Coined by civil rights leader Congressman John Lewis, "Good Trouble" is the act of coming together to take peaceful, non-violent action to challenge injustice and create meaningful change. Good Trouble is marches, protests, service work—any action where communities come together and take a stand against hate.

The civil rights leaders of the past have shown us the power of collective action. That’s why on July 17th, five years since the passing of Congressman John Lewis, we’re calling on Americans across the country to Make Good Trouble Together.

Good Trouble Lives On is a national day of action to respond to the attacks posed on our democracy, civil rights, and human rights by the Trump administration and to remind them that in America, the power lies with the people.

This will be a nationwide day of peaceful, nonviolent action and organizing, rooted in the tradition of the civil rights movement—but built for today’s challenges. On July 17th, communities across the country will come together in the streets, at courthouses, and in community spaces to raise our voices, stand together, and carry forward John Lewis' mission for justice, voting rights, and dignity for all. These actions may include:

This is not a day of quiet reflection—it is a day of courage and collective action, just as John Lewis modeled throughout his life.

The same forces that used violence against John Lewis and civil rights leaders for marching for justice on the Edmund Pettus Bridge are back, with billionaire backers, extremist leaders, and authoritarian ambition whose destructive agenda has already lead to:

It doesn’t have to be this way. Trump is trying to divide us, but we know the power of coming together. Whether you're outraged by attacks on our civil rights, the gutting of essential healthcare, disappearances of our neighbors, or the assault on free speech and our right to organize—join us in making Good Trouble.

We are not spectators to history. We are the makers of it.

Together, we can push back against the Trump administration and realize a democracy that works for us. When we fight, we win. When we stand together, we rise.

Let’s make some Good Trouble together.

With gratitude and persistence,

- Kristin, Olivia, Lauren, Monifa, Donna, Xochitl, Ruth, Sue Anne, and the whole MomsRising.org & MamásConPoder Team
