Dear John,

Saving his life meant leaving his family behind.

Marc, a central African immigrant, fled to the United States after being tortured for expressing his political beliefs against the ruling political party. He felt lost, desperate, and completely unlike himself. Seeking safety from further harm and persecution, Marc found help at the NVFS Multicultural Center.

Marc received intensive counseling as well as legal help to apply for asylum. Carrying his family’s love in his heart, he focused on reuniting with his wife and children. Then news came suddenly that his wife died. In the throes of his grief, Marc needed to rely heavily on the support of his counselor, his community, and you.

Today, I am asking you to support Marc and fellow immigrants in Northern Virginia with a gift to the NVFS Immigrant Resiliency Fund.

The Immigrant Resiliency Fund is our commitment to supporting immigrants as core members of our community. Your support will help immigrants regain a sense of safety and control over their own lives. Whether they need mental health services or immigration legal services, you’ll be investing in the strength and potential of the immigrant community.

Years have come and gone and Marc continues to wait. Waiting for an asylum interview that may never come. Waiting for the chance to wrap his arms around his child again.

Sadly, there are so many like Marc. Some have experienced multiple traumas, and have had to overcome horrific situations in their country of origin. Others are struggling to make a living due to language barriers or harmful stereotypes.

Will you give today to build a brighter future for Marc, his child, and our vibrant immigrant community?

With gratitude,

Paola Sandoval-Moshenberg
