The courageous men and women of ICE are under attack.

In recent weeks, our nation has witnessed a troubling trend of deranged individuals assaulting ICE agents. As you may know, this includes an ambush attack at an ICE facility in Texas and an angry mob throwing rocks at ICE vehicles in California following a raid of a cannabis farm. In the case in California, one man fired a gun at ICE agents — a vicious attack that’s currently under investigation by the FBI to find the suspect.

Keep in mind, these officers are simply doing their jobs. ICE agents are American heroes who risk their lives every day to secure our borders and keep our communities safe. For example, the raid on the California cannabis farm rescued ten illegal alien minors, eight of them were unaccompanied. Additionally, over the weekend, ICE took illegal aliens convicted of rape of a child, sexual assault, and possession of child pornography off of our streets.

Yet instead of applauding ICE’s actions, Democrats are fanning the flames of violence through their incendiary rhetoric. Here are just a few examples:

• House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries implored people to “fight” the Trump Administration “in the streets” and declared ICE agents “will be unsuccessful” in protecting their identities “no matter what it takes.”
• Squad Member Rep. Pramila Jayapal called ICE agents “deranged” and claimed it’s “inspiring” to obstruct immigration enforcement.
• Rep. LaMonica McIver, who was charged with “forcibly impeding and interfering with federal officers,” incited her supporters to “shut down the city” because “we are at war.”
• Failed VP candidate Governor Tim Walz called ICE agents the “modern-day Gestapo.”
• Squad Member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said ICE “should not exist.”

Folks, this is unconscionable. It’s no wonder assaults on ICE are up nearly 700%. The Left’s reckless rhetoric is inspiring and escalating vicious attacks on ICE agents.

In response, President Trump authorized ICE to arrest violent individuals attacking officers and obstructing their critical work to detain illegal aliens. 

Let me be perfectly clear: I stand with the men and women of ICE.

In fact, I recently had the opportunity to visit the Folkston ICE Processing Center here in Georgia. It was incredible to learn more about their work to keep the Peach State safe — work that they were unable to conduct under the Biden-Harris Administration. They shared with me that, under Joe Biden’s failed leadership, they were instructed to release illegals into local communities every week — including known criminals. Now, illegal aliens are only leaving the facility when they’re being deported.

I’m deeply thankful for the work ICE is tirelessly doing to protect our nation, and I’m pleased that the One Big Beautiful Bill delivers critical funding to the agency in order to boost mass deportations and hire additional ICE and U.S. Customs & Border Protection officers.

Last week, I highlighted several of the major wins in Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB), which President Trump signed into law on July 4th. Over the next few weeks, I’ll provide a deep dive into these victories — starting with historic tax cuts for you and your family.

As you may know, the tax cuts President Trump enacted in 2017 through the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) were set to expire at the end of this year. By extending the TCJA tax cuts in the One Big Beautiful Bill, Republicans protected families from the largest tax hike in American history. Specifically, the average taxpayer in the Ninth District would have seen a 23% tax increase without the OBBB. For example, a family of four making roughly $75,000 would have faced more than a $1,500 tax hike.

Additionally, without the One Big Beautiful Bill, Georgia’s Ninth District would have experienced:

• 94,000+ families’ Child Tax Credit cut in half
• 83% of taxpayers’ Guaranteed Deduction slashed in half
• 58,400+ small businesses hit with a 43.4% tax rate
• 4,000+ family-owned farms’ Death Tax Exemption cut in half
• 8,700+ taxpayers impacted by the return of the Alternative Minimum Tax

Every House and Senate Democrat opposed the OBBB, meaning they voted for the largest tax increase on middle and working class families in U.S. history. In stark contrast, I voted in favor of this legislation in order to deliver tax relief to workers, families, and small businesses in North Georgia.

During my visit, I toured FLETC's Glynco headquarters, which is truly a state-of-the-art facility. The campus boasts impressive staff, instructors, ranges, laboratories, and equipment — all of which are needed to master techniques and training in both the classroom and out in the field. FLETC also has training locations in Artesia, New Mexico; Charleston, South Carolina; and Cheltenham, Maryland. Additionally, the agency conducts training operations throughout the National Capital Region, across state, local, and tribal jurisdictions, and provides assistance to international partners.

I’m thankful for FLETC’s remarkable work to keep our nation safe. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I look forward to working with the agency to ensure it has the support and resources needed to continue its vital mission as the nation’s premier provider of law enforcement instruction for decades to come. 

Last week, the Georgia State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) honored Clarkesville Police Officer Terry Lee Palmer for his brave actions on September 7th, 2024. On that night, Clarkesville police were called to an apartment complex for a welfare check on a resident struggling with mental health issues. When officers arrived at the scene, the individual was armed and later turned his weapon on Officer Palmer. In response, Palmer engaged the threat — opening fire and then performing life-saving measures on the perpetrator, who later died from his injuries. Due to his quick and fearless actions, Officer Palmer prevented an ambush on his fellow officers, as well as a potential shooting at the apartment complex. To honor his remarkable work, Officer Palmer was surprised with the Heroic Action Award from the FOP during a Clarkesville City Council meeting. During the presentation, Officer Palmer received much-deserved recognition for his exceptional, life-saving service.

Congratulations, Officer Palmer! The Ninth District is incredibly blessed to have courageous law enforcement officers selflessly serving and protecting our North Georgia communities.

This week, House lawmakers are back in Washington to consider several pieces of legislation, including H.R. 4016, the FY26 Department of Defense Appropriations Act. This annual appropriations bill strengthens America’s defense by investing in innovation in military superiority, supporting our servicemembers and their families, promoting fiscal responsibility, and ensuring the Pentagon is focused on its core mission to keep our country safe.

Additionally, the House Appropriations Committee will continue debating, amending, and advancing the remaining FY26 appropriations bills. On Thursday, we’re expected to hold a Full Committee Markup for the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development bill, as well as the Energy and Water bill.
