Hi John,
I’m in New York’s 16th District right now helping to Get Out The Vote for Jamaal Bowman. Today is his primary election against 31-year incumbent Eliot Engel.
I wanted to take a moment to share some thoughts with you while I take a quick break from canvassing for Jamaal.
Our movement and Justice Democrats is all about going up against entrenched power structures and taking on the political establishment to elect diverse, working-class leaders who actually represent the communities they serve.
In 2018, we recruited and helped elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who has been a voice for moral clarity in Congress. From introducing the Green New Deal to holding the Trump administration accountable, AOC has been a transformative leader in the halls of Congress.
Today, Jamaal Bowman is going up against 31-year incumbent Eliot Engel. A principal and community leader, Justice Democrats recruited him to run for Congress and I am so thankful for everything you’ve done to support Jamaal this far.
Our political system is designed to block young, working-class leaders from running for elected office. And the DCCC has put the blacklist policy into place, which makes it even that much more difficult to run against an incumbent.
We’re building the infrastructure to help everyday people run and win. That’s why Justice Democrats’ work is so important. Today, our team is focused on getting out the vote for Jamaal. I’m here in NY-16 with JD’s communications director, Waleed Shahid. And the energy on the ground is real — people are ready for a change.
If you can afford to, help Justice Democrats keep up the fight to transform the Democratic Party from the inside out by contributing $3 today. Our movement to take on the corporate wing of the Democratic Party is only possible because of supporters like you.
Thank you for everything,
Alexandra Rojas
