Sault Ste. Marie Man Sentenced for Threatening Chippewa County Judge, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney

*LANSING* – Today, Clifford Milam, 26, of Sault Ste. Marie, was sentenced to 5 to 15 years’ incarceration before visiting Judge Brian Rahilly in the 50th Circuit Court in Chippewa County on one count of Attempt False Report or Threat of Terrorism as a Habitual Fourth Offender, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Milam pled no contest to the charge [ [link removed] ] in December 2024. 

“Those who work to uphold the rule of law should not fear for their safety just for doing their jobs,” Nessel said “I hope this sentence serves as a deterrent to anyone who believes they can threaten or intimidate public officials without consequence. My office will continue prosecuting individuals who attempt to undermine the justice system through fear or violence.” 

In February 2024, Milam threatened the lives of an assistant prosecutor in the Chippewa County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and a 50th Circuit Court judge who were handling cases against the defendant.
