Team, it's just common sense.

To avoid overloading the electricity grid, you spread out the times that you use energy. It's the same principle as running your dishwasher in the middle of the night when everyone is asleep—and when done statewide in combination with smart energy infrastructure that spreads out demand, it makes our electricity grid more reliable, efficient, and resilient against climate-driven weather conditions like extreme heat.

Two bills in the legislature right now—SB 541 (Becker) and AB 740 (Harabedian)—would help California improve the timing of energy use and create networks of smart and electric appliances to lower bills, boost grid reliability, and support the transition to clean energy. Fill out our quick one-minute form to email your representatives and make sure they vote YES on these bills for grid reliability, efficiency, and affordability.

Grid resilience isn't just a 'nice-to-have'; it's a life-or-death issue. Power outages due to grid overload drive waves of emergency room visits, deaths, and substantial economic losses—and climate-driven extreme heat and weather events can push grid systems to their absolute limit.

It's already projected to be one of the hottest summers we've ever had, and it'll only get hotter from here unless we take bold action to solve the climate crisis and protect our communities.

California needs grid improvements NOW if we want to save lives during the upcoming extreme heat, floods, wildfires, and other climate-driven disasters.

Join EnviroVoters in emailing state representatives to vote YES on SB 541 and AB 740 for grid reliability, efficiency, and affordability.

Thanks for being part of this movement,
