I am horrified and heartbroken over the unimaginable loss in Gaza. Last Thursday morning as patients waited outside our Altayara clinic in Deir al Balah, Gaza, a brutal airstrike struck without warning, killing at least 15 people and injuring many more. 10 children lost their lives, including one-year-old Mohammed, who was there to receive lifesaving nutritional support.
Earlier that morning, Mohammed's mother Donia heard her baby boy utter his first words. Imagining the joy Donia felt hearing her child talk followed by the unspeakable devastation of losing him just hours later will continue to haunt me.

Like nine other families that day, Donia lost her child waiting in line to receive medical care. And now, Donia is lying in a hospital bed, critically injured in the same strike that killed her son Mohammed - left with nothing but her son's tiny shoe clutched tightly in her hand. We must not accept the normalization of human suffering, Friend.
These families were simply doing what any other parents would do: Trying to care for their children. That's why they come to us. And that's why we must stay.

Project HOPE's clinic - a deconflicted humanitarian site where families are supposed to be safe - was attacked without warning. This brutal attack is a stark reminder that no place is safe in Gaza.
