The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) recently released its second draft of new Health Education Standards. Many topics fall under the umbrella of Health education, such as CPR and AED instruction, nutrition, and substance abuse, but the outsized focus of the proposed benchmarks on sexual health, a consent-based sex education model, and instruction on "gender identity and expression" creates serious concern for Minnesota Family Council and True North Legal.
The Sexual Health portion includes required student learning expectations that violate related laws and are developmentally inappropriate. The Minnesota public has until July 18 (Friday!) to review proposed standards and the benchmarks to achieve those standards, submitting your comments which the Department will review. |
