Bird-friendly, Low Cost Mosquito Control: How To Set Up a Mosquito Larvae Trap

Asian Tiger Mosquito getting a meal, Judy Gallagher

Don't spray for mosquitoes on your property!

Contrary to what the fogger operator may have told you, the pyrethroid-based insecticides used by mosquito foggers indiscriminately kill all insects, not just the mosquitos. Ironically, targeting adult mosquitos is the worst and by far the most expensive approach to mosquito control, because mosquitos are best controlled in the larval stage.

-Doug Tallamy, author of Nature's Best Hope

But...we have good news!

There is an effective alternative to harmful mosquito spraying: reducing standing water on your property and building mosquito larvae traps.

Read our step-by-step guide written and developed by our resident mosquito trap expert. Our guide was recently updated, and includes photos, frequently asked questions and a list of commercial sources for trap materials. Give it a try and let us know how it goes!
