Meet Richard | How Can I Help You? | Issues | Media Center | Contact me

Friends,

Last week, I was home visiting parts of Moore and Alamance County that were hit hardest from the flooding from Tropical Storm Chantal. I met with local officials, toured the dam at Crystal Lake, and checked in with families in low-lying areas. I want to thank our first responders, local officials, and community volunteers for acting quickly, opening emergency shelters, and making sure our residents had the support they needed. As your Congressman, I’ll continue working to bring every available resource to ensure our communities have what they need to recover and rebuild.

While we will continue to focus on those affected by the flooding in the district and praying for our friends in Texas, I’m proud that the One Big Beautiful Bill Act was signed into law by President Trump on July 4th.

I’ve seen a lot of hot rhetoric on what’s in the bill, so I want you to hear directly from me on what is actually in the bill, why it matters, and how it will deliver for families, farmers, veterans, and small businesses right here in North Carolina.

Let’s start with the direct impact to everyone at home. This bill means bigger paychecks for working Americans! Wages are projected to rise by $5,500 to $10,500, and take-home pay will jump by as much as $12,200 on average for families. By passing this bill, we prevented the largest tax increase in American history, something that every Democrat voted in favor of.

It also eliminates taxes on tips and overtime pay, giving relief to service workers, employees, first responders, law enforcement, and the folks everywhere putting in extra hours to get ahead. This is real, lasting economic relief specifically designed with working families in mind  – and that’s exactly who I came to Washington to fight for.

The bill also expands the Child Tax Credit, makes paid family leave tax credits permanent, and creates the brand new ‘Trump Savings Accounts’. Every baby born in America will now get a $1,000 head start in a savings account tied to the stock market — and parents can add up to $5,000 a year, tax-free. Over time, that money will grow and grow. As Warren Buffett says, compound interest is one of the greatest miracles in the world — and now, every American child will benefit from that. It’s time for every American to be able to get ahead.

We also increased the Standard Deduction to get even more money in your pockets. We even strengthened school choice, so that parents can be in charge of their children’s education, not a bureaucrat who has never stepped foot in the classroom.

For our rural communities and farm families, the bill expands crop insurance, cuts red tape on international markets, and raises the death tax exemption so that two million family farms won’t get punished by the IRS when passed down to the next generation.

We support made-in-America manufacturing through full expensing for new factories and upgrades.

The bill also delivers major investments in rural broadband, something I’ve been fighting for since my first day in office.

Now I want to address one of the biggest concerns I’ve been hearing, and some of the myths the press has intentionally been echoing that have scared people when it comes to Medicaid, food stamps, and the bill’s historic spending reforms.

Let’s look at the facts. Medicaid spending will still grow over the next decade. What the bill does is stop the uncontrolled explosion of the enrollment that began under Obamacare – particularly among able-bodied adults who are above the poverty line. Those who are disabled, pregnant, caring for children, or dealing with chronic illnesses or substance abuse issues are completely exempt from the bill’s new work requirements. And those who are subject to the rule, work can include a job, school enrollment, training, or even volunteering - and it is only 20 hours a week.

The idea that this bill punishes the working poor is simply false. The truth is, Medicaid is for helping those who need it, not a universal handout for able-bodied men who refuse to work.

Food stamp reform in this bill is just as straightforward. Right now, able-bodied adults without dependents must work 20 hours a week or lose benefits in 90 days. That grace period allows people time to get back on their feet. It also holds states accountable for improper payments, which currently fall 100% on the backs of federal taxpayers. Again, this is about common sense guardrails, not hurting families in need.

I’m proud to tell you the One Big Beautiful Bill Act delivers $1.7 trillion in mandatory savings, the most significant reform to federal benefits programs since the 1990s. It stops taxpayer funding for sex-changes, removes illegal immigrants from entitlement rolls, and restores integrity to government spending.

But this bill isn’t just about taxes and spending – it also delivers border security and public safety. It finishes the wall, hires thousands of new ICE and Border Patrol agents, and provides a $10,000 annual bonus for law enforcement offices on the front lines. For too long, our border patrol agents and ICE officers have been underpaid, undermanned, and vilified by the far left. This bill sends a clear message: we have their backs.

It also unleashes American energy by ending the weaponization of permitting and opening the door to new oil, gas, and nuclear projects. It rescinds billions of dollars from Biden’s ‘Green New Scam’ and shuts down sweetheart deals for radical climate activists.

Folks, this is what it looks like to put America First!

We are cutting taxes, defending borders, unleashing energy, and restoring common sense. We are standing up for law-abiding citizens, protecting our children’s future, and turning the page on Biden-era chaos.

As always, thank you for the honor of serving you. I’ll keep fighting everyday for you, in Washington and back home, to defend our values, secure our future, and protect the promise of the American dream.

God bless you, God Bless North Carolina, and God Bless The United States of America

Until Next Time,

Richard Hudson
