Dear Neighbors,

I hope this email finds you staying cool; a National Weather Service alert has issued a heat advisory for our area and lingering smoke from the Canadian wildfires still continues to impact air quality. If you have to be outside today, be sure to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks to beat the heat.

*This Saturday, July 19 at 3:00 p.m. I’m holding a town hall meeting [ [link removed] ] in our community* to discuss the 2025 legislative session, recent federal legislation that has been signed into law, and its effects on Minnesotans. With everything going on in our state and country, *I want to hear how you’re doing*, and answer any questions you may have.

Residents interested in attending can RSVP to the event at [link removed] and will receive an email with the location. I appreciate your understanding with this updated safety protocol.

*New Laws in Minnesota*

On July 1, our new state budget took effect, along with the majority of the new policies lawmakers enacted this past session. As with all of this year’s successful legislation, these new laws are the product of bipartisan compromise. While there are certainly components of the budget I wish went further, there are still plenty of new commonsense policies and investments to be proud of, including a local win we secured to build the dated animal hospital at the Minnesota Zoo.

Statewide highlights include required access to free water at ticketed events of 100 or more people, protections for children who appear in online media, and assistance for homeowners and tenants when dealing with HOAs.

Minnesota Public Radio provided a brief overview of some of these laws and more [ [link removed] ], but if you’d like a deep dive of what’s been implemented, you can read a nonpartisan summary of all the new laws here [ [link removed] ].

I look forward to chatting more about these and how we can keep moving Rosemount, Apple Valley, and Eagan forward.

Hope to see you on Saturday.

Take care,

John
