John,
Each year, Washington Conservation Action names a Legislator of the Year who has gone above and beyond as an environmental champion during the recent legislative session.
This year, we hope you will join WCA in honoring state Senator Liz Lovelett of the 40th Legislative District as Washington Conservation Action’s 2025 Legislator of the Year, key sponsor of the Recycling Reform Act.
Sen. Lovelett shows what is possible when we elect the right legislators and support them in their work. Laws that protect people and nature as one result from persistently pushing to get people like Sen. Lovelett elected.
“Growing up in the heart of the Salish Sea has given me a first-hand view of how our ecosystems are changing, the development pressures we’re facing, and the contamination these sensitive habitats are enduring,” says Sen. Liz Lovelett (D-Anacortes).
“Being on the team that championed reforming our recycling system and reducing plastic pollution was some of the most challenging and rewarding work I’ve done as a state legislator. I’m deeply honored for this acknowledgement by Washington Conservation Action and their collaboration throughout the years.”
That’s where you come in. The 2025 election season is upon us, and there are many environmental champions on the ballot. Sign up here to get information about how you can help get these candidates into office. [[link removed]]
With headwinds at the federal level, it’s more important than ever to make progress at the state level.

Consider how much Sen. Lovelett has accomplished: Since joining Washington’s Legislature in 2019, she stands out as a fierce leader on environmental issues important to WCA and its communities, supporting measures investing in the clean-up of Puget Sound and its habitat; and being one of the state’s most steadfast environmental champions in the fight to tackle climate change.
She also has an amazing record of legislative achievement in the 2025 legislative session, helping to pass recycling reform, protecting Climate Commitment Act dollars, and more.
We’re proud to honor Sen. Lovelett as the 2025 Legislator of the Year. Thank you for all you do for our communities and our environment!
Onward,
