Today marks my 29th anniversary of becoming a naturalized citizen, and I couldn’t be prouder to be an American.
When my family immigrated here when I was just three years old, we faced financial hardship, language barriers, and made countless sacrifices. But in just one generation, I’m proud to have achieved my American Dream – and now, I’m running for Congress to make sure others have the same opportunity.
Right now, our immigration system is broken. But terrorizing communities and deporting American citizens – including sick children – is not right. We need bipartisan reform that creates strong borders, supports businesses, and a legal, safe, efficient, and humane path to citizenship.
That’s why I’m running for Congress: to fix the problems we all face, not to play political games with people’s lives. I believe loving your country means creating solutions to make it a better place, not tearing it apart with extremist rhetoric. I’m proud to be an American, and I’m proud of the movement that we’re building towards a better country – for everyone.
Thank you for standing with me,
Carol Obando-Derstine
