VIDEO OF THE DAY: Republicans pull shock late-night move in Epstein files vote

In an incredibly predictable and still stunningly cynical move, all but one of the GOP members on the House Rules Committee voted NO on Rep. Ro Khanna's amendment to release the Epstein files to the public, causing even more consternation among the MAGA rank-and-file and prompting liberals on social media to rebrand the GOP as "Guardian Of Pedophiles." "The question with Epstein is: Whose side are you on? Are you on the side of the rich and powerful, or are you on the side of the people?" said Khanna in a statement. It's pretty clear whose side the GOP is on. While the depravity and hypocrisy of the GOP knows no bounds, it's hard not to think of the years of disgusting "groomer" smears they've hurled at LGBTQ people, the hysterical child sex trafficking obsession used to justify heinous abuses against innocent immigrants, all the weepy rhetoric about the sanctity of a child's life in arguments justifying revoking reproductive rights...and then they just vote en masse to cover up the files of a serial pedophile and sex trafficker who, by their own assertions, has over a thousand victims. Will the cognitive dissonance be too much for Trump fans, who are genuinely invested in this issue, to reckon with? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure. In the words of infamous Benghazi zealot Charlie Daniels, "Epstein ain't going away!"

Supreme Court allows Trump to lay off nearly 1,400 Education Department employees
Once again, the conservative justices on the Supreme Court have rubber-stamped Donald Trump's potentially illegal actions with no explanation, and once again, the liberal justices have issued a very alarmed dissent warning about the dark path this Court is taking our country down. This time, the MAGA justices allowed Trump to continue with his plan to fire 1,400 people from the Department of Education, which would gut the department and constitute a de facto abolishment that should only be possible with Congressional order. “Without explaining to the American people its reasoning, a majority of justices on the U.S. Supreme Court have dealt a devastating blow to this nation’s promise of public education for all children. On its shadow docket, the Court has yet again ruled to overturn the decision of two lower courts without argument,” said Skye Perryman, president and CEO of Democracy Forward. The decision to greenlight this move before its legality has even been decided is yet more evidence that the highest court in the land is more than willing to dismantle the rule of law in order to advance an extremist conservative agenda that will leave our nation a dystopian nightmare for those of us not in the oligarch class.

Take Action: Demand the Senate reject Trump's corporate USPS board nominees!

Freshman Democrat under ATTACK for standing up to the GOP

Nellie Pou for Congress: Nellie Pou has only been in Congress a few months, but she’s already facing a barrage of GOP attacks for voting against their destructive budget bill that would hand out huge tax breaks to the wealthy while RAISING taxes on working families. Just a few days ago, the NRCC issued an error-filled press release written by Big Business lobbyists that falsely smeared her with lies. She’s one of the few Democrats to win her seat in a county that voted for Trump; she’s going to need all the help she can get if we want to protect the MUST-HOLD seat and retake Congress. Will you chip in to thank her for doing the right thing and helping her weather the storm against GOP attacks?

Homeland Security's Noem says in talks with five Republican-led states to build detention sites
Energized by the controversy and attention provoked by the horrific "Alligator Alcatraz" concentration camp in Florida, DHS chief Kristi Noem has announced that the Trump admin is in talks to build a gulag archipelago of camps across red states eager to curry favor with the White House. It's clear the ultimate goal is to build a second carceral state for America's 11 million undocumented migrant population, all funded by public dollars and managed by private prison corporations. Smash, grab, and imprison on a national scale.

More than 20 states sue Trump administration over billions in frozen funding for after-school, summer programs and more
Democratic officials from 24 states and the District of Columbia sued the Trump administration on Monday, seeking to restore access to billions of dollars in frozen education funding. The states lost out on funding for after-school and summer programs, teacher training, English language learners, and support for the children of migrant farmworkers, among other initiatives, as part of the June 30 freeze on more than $6 billion that the states say was allocated by Congress. The Trump team says that the programs are being reviewed to ensure the content is reflective of the "president's priorities," but we all know that Trump, any public dollar not going to the wealthy is a dollar wasted.

Bondi fires her personal ethics chief
Join us in a collective "wait, she had an ethics chief?" Being the notoriously corrupt Pam Bondi's "ethics chief" must be like being an etiquette coach at the chimpanzee house — ignored and constantly dodging poo — but for her to not even pretend to respect his office enough to keep it filled marks another new low in the flagrant lawlessness with which the Trump team conducts itself. The ethics chief, Joseph Tirrell, was a career attorney who’d spent nearly 20 years at the department. He received a termination letter that mispelled his first name and did not give a reason for his firing.

Pentagon to pay Elon Musk $200 million for use of MechaHitler AI

Last week, Elon Musk's AI chat bot "Grok" went on an anti-Semitic tirade, declared itself to be "MechaHitler" and wrote deeply disturbing and shockingly graphic descriptions of how it would break into former Democratic candidate Will Stancil's house and rape him. Just days later, the US military decided it would give Elon Musk's xAI firm a $200 million contract to develop and implement AI tools for the DoD...along with similar contracts for several other major US-based artificial intelligence developers, including Google, Anthropic and OpenAI. While this certainly won't be the first time Nazis have been brought in to work for the US government — Operation Paper Clippy, if you will — it beggars the mind as to how anyone could think this was a good idea until you realize that like most US military spending, the ultimate goal is not efficiency, productivity or military advancement but to just to funnel public money into the wallets of Big Tech CEOs. But hey, you can't argue against all the military applications of Grok's newest feature, which is, uh, AI-powered anime girlfriends.

Trump administration dashes hopes of anti-pollution plan for JD Vance’s home town
A Biden-era plan to implement a gas-powered blast furnace at a steel mill in Ohio, which would have eliminated tons of greenhouse gases from the local environment year over year and created more than a thousand jobs, has been put on hold indefinitely by the Trump administration, because...fuck you, that's why.
