John,
Sometimes "self-care" and "showing up" feel like unattainable buzzwords. As caregivers, the thought of self-care can feel completely inaccessible when you're caring for yourself, maybe your children or a parent, or other loved ones.
Rachel Wilkerson Miller, Deputy Editor, Life Desk at VICE knows that showing up for yourself and others isn't easy, but it is so important. In her new book The Art of Showing Up: How to Be There for Yourself and Your People, she writes: "Showing up is the act of bearing witness to people's joy, pain, and true selves; validating their experiences; easing their load; and communicating that they are not alone in this life."

Rachel will also offer thoughts and specific ways Black people and caregivers can care for themselves and others as systemic racism and patterns of oppression become more visibilized.
Namatie and I have been reading Rachel's book, The Art of Showing Up, over the last week, and we've learned that showing up for others really starts with understanding yourself. As caregivers, we often prioritize the priorities of others. In order to thrive, we need to tune into our own needs as well. We're so excited to continue a conversation with Rachel to explore how to show up for ourselves so that we can better show up for others!
Rachel will be joining us at 1 p.m. ET on Friday, June 26. Don't miss this conversation!

You'll need a Facebook account to schedule a reminder about this conversation, but if you don't have one, don't worry. You will be able to watch live on Friday without signing in.
Showing up isn't always a smooth or easy process, but Rachel has really concrete tools to help you show up better for yourself, and for your people.
We hope to see you there!
With care,
Sade Dozan & Namatie Mansaray
