John,
Saturday marks the third anniversary of the designation of the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, which protects over 87,563 acres of enchanting forest and rushing waters, and offers spectacular views of the granite peaks of Mount Katahdin — Maine’s tallest mountain.
The wild lands of Katahdin Woods make it the perfect place for wildlife, and a great place to enjoy kayaking, mountain biking, and camping. But that could change at any time — Katahdin Woods and Waters is on the list of ten national monuments slated for reductions or changes by the Trump Administration.
Sign now and push the administration to protect Katahdin Woods and Waters and other national monuments at risk.
President Trump has already unjustly slashed an unprecedented two million acres from Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments in Utah — opening these majestic landscapes to energy development and off-road vehicle abuse. This blatant attack on our public lands permanently threatens the local outdoor recreation economy and cultural importance of these irreplaceable public lands for private profit.
We cannot allow our public lands to fall into the wrong hands. These lands belong to you, me, and every American, and deserve full protection under the law — now and forever.
With Katahdin Woods and Waters and other national monuments on the chopping block, we need to make sure that not a single acre is taken from the American public. Allowing any part of these lands — the unique geological structures, Native American sacred sights, or the expansive coniferous forests — to fall into the wrong hands could do irreversible damage, and sever the priceless connection we have to our natural world that make these lands so special.
Take action right now to stand up to the administration and demand they bring back protections for all of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante, and make a promise to the American people that all other national monuments facing threats will be protected.
Thank you for speaking up for our public lands during this critical time.
In solidarity,
Jordan Schreiber
Director of Advocacy, The Trust for Public Land
P.S. Getting rid of vast portions of America’s national monuments will result in the destruction of archeological sites, lost access for recreational activities, and economic harm to local businesses. Help us mark the third anniversary of the beautiful Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument by taking a stand today.
