ACLU Supporter, the Trump administration is making it easier for the government to spy on you. Right now, DOGE and other agencies, at the president's instruction, are reportedly using shady, unvetted AI systems to "consolidate" our data – creating mass dossiers with our employment records, social security numbers, political donations, and more that any government agency could access. This is a privacy disaster. Putting all that data in one place already leaves us susceptible to cybersecurity attacks and misuse – but the AI being used runs the risk of false flags that could deny or delay people's benefits or wrongly flag people for investigation with little oversight.
The people of this country deserve to know what's happening behind closed doors – which is why the ACLU has already filed FOIA requests with over 40 agencies, along with a lawsuit when the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Social Security Administration failed to respond to our request. But in the meantime, our private and personal financial and medical records are being put at risk – illegally accessed and analyzed by the Trump administration. Consolidating this data means data that should be siloed for the purpose it was collected, like tax information or medical benefits, could be twisted to hurt that person by targeting them for deportation or cutting benefits. The Trump administration wants to use these systems to identify, surveil, and detain immigrants in near real-time. And they're using untrustworthy AI to do it, risking false flags that could be life-ruining. Thanks for all you do, The ACLU Team |
