Friend—Did you see the email we sent yesterday? We need to raise $75,000 by July 1 to keep our nonprofit independent journalism going, but many donors have had to cut back due to the pandemic. Can we count on your help?
Friend,
In the nearly 25 years since Common Dreams launched as your source for progressive, nonprofit news, we have never faced a time like this together.
An out-of-control pandemic. Police murders nearly every day. Protesters gassed by an increasingly authoritarian president. Millions out of work. And there's so much at stake in the upcoming election . . . assuming we have a free and fair election at all.
And yet at the very moment when the work of nonprofit independent journalism is needed most, some of our most loyal donors have had to cut back.
Since the start of the year, hundreds of our recurring donors—people who collectively give thousands of dollars per year through automatic monthly payments—have had to cancel. We understand completely that during economic times like this, not everyone can be as generous as they'd like to be.
But we have to be honest with you: Our base of recurring donors are an absolutely essential foundation of revenue for powering all our work. Without them, we'd eventually have to turn off the lights and shut down. That's the fact.
We know how much you value the nonprofit, independent journalism of Common Dreams. We see it because our web traffic is way up, even as some are forced to cut back on giving. That's why we've set an especially ambitious goal of raising $75,000 by July 1 to help fill the gap created by those who have been forced to cancel their recurring donations and to power our work through the rest of this election cycle.
Donate now to help reach our Mid-Year Fundraising Campaign goal of $75,000 by July 1.
