This summer has kicked off with an incredible series of actions and protests demanding an end to the debt crisis that’s affecting millions of people around the world.

On Wednesday, 5000 of us gathered in central London for a mass lobby of parliament, taking our demands for action on the twin crises of debt and climate directly to MPs. It was an incredible day, that saw people travelling the length and breadth of the UK to make their voices heard.

In the preceding weeks, activists and campaigners around the world took to the streets ahead of a key United Nations meeting in Seville, to demand lasting change and a new global framework to cancel the debt. In more than forty countries, protests and demonstrations called for action.

Wealthy countries have been trying to water down and block the demands of lower-income countries for new global rules on debt – and new national debt justice laws. Despite this shameful behaviour by countries including the UK, lower-income countries have continued to demand justice.

The mass lobby last week, combined with the sheer scale of the protests around the world, has pushed the debt crisis right under the noses of politicians.
