John,

I want to take a moment to say thank you. Two weeks ago, I announced I won’t be seeking re-election in 2026. That decision was not made lightly. But after more than four decades in public service, I felt it was the right time to begin a new chapter.

Long before I was in Congress, I was a public school teacher in the Philadelphia School District. Back then, my goal was simple: I wanted to improve the lives of the kids in my classroom and the community around me.

That goal never changed. Whether as an organizer, a state representative, or a member of Congress, I’ve always believed that public service is about building something better for the people we love and the neighborhoods we call home.

I want you to know that your support has meant everything to me. Whether you read an email, attended an event, made a contribution, or simply kept the faith during the hardest fights — your presence has been a source of strength I will never forget.

I plan to serve out the rest of my term with the same determination and focus I’ve always had. There’s still so much work to do and I intend to keep doing it with everything I’ve got. I was proud to vote no for Trump's tax bill at every turn — I will continue to fight this administration's attacks on the American people and on our democracy.

Moving forward, these emails will start to look a little different. I won’t be running for office again, but I will be reaching out to support the next generation of leaders and put the House back in Democratic hands in 2026. I hope you’ll stand with me in that fight.
