The Constitution still stands

Hello,

The Supreme Court recently issued an opinion in the ongoing legal challenge to Donald Trump’s executive order attempting to end birthright citizenship.

Let me be clear: that executive order is not just wrong — it’s blatantly unconstitutional.

Birthright citizenship has been protected by the 14th Amendment since the end of the Civil War. It affirms that anyone born on American soil is a citizen regardless of their parents’ status. That principle is foundational, and it’s not up for negotiation.

As a birthright citizen myself and the son of Haitian immigrants, this fight is personal. But most importantly, this is about upholding the rule of law and about what kind of country we want to be.

Despite the Court’s ruling, birthright citizenship remains the law of the land in Illinois. And I will keep working with our coalition to see this case through and defend the rights of all who call this country home.

If you agree that our Constitution and country are worth fighting for, please consider making a donation to our campaign today to fuel this critical work.
