Remember when opponents of voting rights spent 2024 disavowing the Heritage Foundation's "Project 2025", John? Now that they're in control they are following that playbook line by line.

Organized by the Heritage Foundation, a right-wing, dark money, inside-the-beltway, anti-voting think tank, and advised by more than 100 conservative groups, Project 2025 put forth a 922-page list of policy recommendations, going agency by agency in the federal government.

So far the Trump administration has followed Project 2025 in five major ways:

➜ Filling the administration with the authors of Project 2025. From installing Russell Vought, the main author, as head of the Office of Management and Budget to making the head of the FCC section head of the FCC to and more, the author's list has been appointed to powerful positions en masse.

➜ Mass firings in the civil service. Elon Musk's DOGE team started with a buyout scheme for federal employees and when that failed, moved to layoffs. The Supreme Court recently cleared the path for mass firings. Project 2025 calls for replacing the open positions with MAGA henchmen.

➜ Military immigration enforcement. They've deployed U.S. troops on our domestic borders, with ongoing operations in Los Angeles supporting ICE and their operations to round up anyone who might not be a legal immigrant -- with a lot of legal Americans wrongly arrested. 

➜ Persecuting transgender Americans. The Trump administration has attacked gender identity across the board. 

➜ Environmental rollbacks. From pulling out of the Paris Climate Accords (again) to opening Alaska's land to drilling to valuing fossil fuels over all other forms of energy production, they're dismantling environmental regulation piece by piece. 

We're just six months in. If they've already accomplished all this, you can bet Project 2025's recommendations for voter suppression are coming soon. We must use this playbook of theirs against them and fight back however we can.
