The Trump administration just proposed eliminating every single federal climate research program at NOAA.Their 2026 budget for climate research says $0. Let that sink in.
That means:
No more tracking greenhouse gases
No more hurricane research
No more data on droughts, floods, or sea level rise
No more early warnings when extreme weather is headed our way
This is more than just a budget cut, John. It’s a full-blown erasure of the federal government’s climate science infrastructure. This is the kind of move you make only if you want people to be caught off guard when climate disasters strike.
The proposed new budget would shut down NOAA’s labs across the country and slash more than 2,000 jobs. That’s almost a 20% cut to the entire agency. With unprecedented heatwaves rolling across the country, wildfires decimating communities in the West, and deadly floods destroying communities as we speak, we cannot afford to lose this research.
If Trump gets his way, we’ll be flying blind into hurricanes, heatwaves, and wildfires. Let’s stop this before it’s too late.
