Folks,
Many refugees in Bangladesh offer this advice: "If Yasmin Ara knocks on your door, you should open it. She could save your life."
Yasmin is an IRC community volunteer in Cox's Bazar, the world's largest refugee camp. Yasmin, who is a refugee herself, lives in the camp. She does everything from discussing the importance of washing your hands for 20 seconds to arranging hospital appointments for those who are sick.
'I am a refugee and I am a community volunteer' – Yasmin
Yasmin's work — and the work of the many refugees on the front lines of COVID-19 — is life-changing. When you make a donation in honor of World Refugee Day, you help us support refugees, like Yasmin, who are caring for their communities, creating hope for others, and building a better, brighter future for our world.
URGENT COVID-19 UPDATE:
The first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Cox's Bazar last month and the cramped conditions of the camp could lead to a tragic outbreak. Overcrowding makes social distancing nearly impossible. Restricted internet access in the camp makes it difficult to disseminate health information and stay in touch with those in need. The only way to reach many families is by going from one door to the next.
That's why the efforts of Yasmin and all refugees on the front lines are essential in keeping communities safe and preventing the spread of disease. No one better understands how life-changing health, safety and hope can be than refugees. After fleeing conflict and facing unthinkable adversity, Yasmin and many refugees like her make it their mission to help others survive.
"Rohingya people take care of each other. They help others as much as possible." — Yasmin
Listen, please make a donation in honor of World Refugee Day to help us support Yasmin and the millions of refugees in Bangladesh, Colombia, Syria and other crisis zones worldwide. All gifts made today help fund programs that provide health services, educational opportunities, safety for families fleeing conflict, and much more.
