Dear John, Last week’s two Supreme Court victories are momentous steps toward equality -- and as a dedicated supporter of PFLAG, I want to thank YOU for making history. From speaking out against discrimination in the workplace, to demanding that DREAMers and immigrant families must stay together, to having critical heart-to-heart conversations with friends and family, you are making a difference in the change we’re seeing today. But you and I both know the battle for full equality is far from over. We are keenly aware that federal law does not fully protect our LGBTQ+ loved ones, including immigrants, transgender people of color, and especially Black trans people. As PFLAGers march and work to affect lasting, systemic change to end racial injustice and support Black lives, we recognize that among those systemic solutions is passage of the federal Equality Act to ensure all people have safe and fair access to housing, education, credit, public accommodations, and federal programs and services, including jury service. In honor of Give OUT Day, a national day of giving dedicated to supporting the LGBTQ+ community, PFLAG National is proud to announce that donations between now and June 30 -- up to a total of $25,000 -- will be matched by longtime LGBTQ+ philanthropist Ted Snowdon. Your gift today will have double the impact on our work to advocate for passage of the Equality Act in the Senate; mobilize our advocates in Congress to ensure COVID-19 protections for communities of color, LGBTQ+ people, and other vulnerable groups; and strengthen PFLAG Connects, our national program bringing digital PFLAG support, education, and advocacy to our 400+ chapters and 250,000 members and supporters across the country. You can support PFLAG for Give OUT Day in two ways: - Donate online or text GIVEOUT to 41444 to give a gift of $25, $50, or any amount, which will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to a total of $25,000, thanks to the generosity of longtime LGBTQ+ philanthropist Ted Snowdon; or
- Become a peer-to-peer fundraiser for PFLAG National, raising awareness and funds from your social network (it’s easy to set up -- learn here) and bringing new supporters to PFLAG.
Though Pride marches and parades have been cancelled this month, we must continue to honor and hold up our LGBTQ+ loved ones by drawing on our strong history of allyship and investing deeply in the fight for justice. There is still much work to be done -- let’s keep up the fight. Thank you, and stay safe, Brian K. Bond, Executive Director PFLAG National Pronouns: He/Him |
