Politicizing the Texas Tragedy Does Nobody Any Good

Same old game: Following the devastating flooding in Texas, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer blamed cuts to the National Weather Service staff for the devastating loss of life. Such claims are entirely unfounded, as Diana Furchtgott-Roth, director of Heritage’s Center for Energy, Climate, and Environment, illustrated in a recent piece for The Telegraph.

  • “Preventable failures almost certainly contributed to the tragedy in Kerrville, situated in what some Texans call ‘flash flood alley.’ But no one can credibly blame the National Weather Service, which issued timely warnings in advance of the floods,” writes Furchtgott-Roth.

Sedition, Insurrection, and the Democrats’ Desperate Strategy

Lunacy: “Why is it happening?” asks Victor Davis Hanson on his exclusive Daily Signal program, referring to the violent rhetoric and actions of the Left.

  • “They lost the Congress, they lost the White House, they lost, of course, in most cases, the Supreme Court. So, they don’t have any power,” he said.
  • "It is an era of sedition, insurrection...It has become surreal.”

Universal Basic Income: A Bad Idea That Won’t Go Away

Epic fail: A recent study comparing single moms who received “universal basic income” (UBI) with a control group came to a surprising conclusion.

  • “The researchers expected to find a significant difference in children receiving the larger UBI benefits. Instead, they found zero evidence of differences across all seven measured outcomes,” writes Heritage Senior Research Fellow Rachel Greszler.

Golden Dome: America’s Answer to China’s Space Weapons?

Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images

Hypocrisy: After President Trump unveiled his Golden Dome missile defense plan, China blasted it as “deeply destabilizing” to the global order.

  • But China’s demand that the U.S. limit its defensive systems is not just contradictory—it’s absurd, writes Allen Zhang, research assistant in the Asian Studies Center.
  • “China isn’t concerned about the militarization of space; it’s concerned that the U.S. might finally build something that works,” Zhang says.

The Left Is Wrong About Illegal Aliens and Due Process

Unconstitutional: As immigration law enforcement ramps up, critics of the Trump administration claim that the rights of illegal aliens are being violated.

  • But “those who claim that non-citizens, referred to in our nation’s immigration laws as aliens, are entitled to the full panoply of constitutional rights enjoyed by American citizens are simply wrong,” writes Heritage Senior Legal Fellow Hans von Spakovsky.

Senior Fellow Mike Gonzalez appeared on Fox News to talk about New York Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani. “We can clearly see he’s a communist,” Gonzalez said. “If you look at the things he says, they come directly from Karl Marx.” Mamdani denied he is a communist on Meet the Press. “Guess who else said ‘I’m not a communist’ on Meet the Press?” Gonzalez asked. “Fidel Castro.” Watch the clip on Fox News.
