During this pandemic, girls need our help now more than ever. Make a donation now, and it can help us go twice as far ▸ |
Growing up in my Kenyan community, school was one of the places that my mates and I felt safe. School was where we could learn and begin building a chance at a better future. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the adolescent girls I work with here in Kenya are now staying home from school — and facing some of the biggest challenges in their lives. Without a safe place, they lose access to resources and support, and risk becoming victims of abuse or early marriage. You can help. For a limited time, the Tripadvisor Foundation has joined with Mercy Corps to offer a $30,000 Matching Gift Challenge! This is your chance to make a bigger impact for girls and vulnerable people facing crisis in more than 40 countries.
"Back to school" day for girls in Kalaliwe village, a pastoral community in rural Kenya. Mercy Corps paved the way to enroll them in formal education through the GIRL program, designed to empower girls through life skills training.
As the world faces the health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, girls like these in my community face additional threats. The pandemic is having a tremendous effect in communities worldwide where girls’ education is not a priority. I invite you to join me and Mercy Corps’ global community of humanitarians in helping to provide critical support for girls, and for young people everywhere who seek to build a better future. Please give whatever you can during this Tripadvisor Foundation Matching Gift Challenge, so your generous gift can go twice as far. With help from people like you, the girls in my program, along with vulnerable people around the globe, can continue getting the support they need during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. Your gift can truly make an impact. Sabdio Sabdio Darso is a GIRL (Girls Improving Resilience with Livelihood) Project Officer for Mercy Corps, based in Kenya. She manages and works with hundreds of adolescent girls, in and out of school, to help them realize economic empowerment, increase their food security and improve their ability to adapt to crisis. |
