Today is a big day for regional communities who had their polytechnics dism=
antled by Labour. Students, industry and communities across New Zealand wil=
l be delighted that we are re-establishing 10 polytechnics across the count=
ry from 1 January next year.=C2=A0
=C2=A0
It=E2=80=99s clear from the start that Labour=E2=80=99s merger of all regio=
nal polytechnics into a single mega Polytech wouldn=E2=80=99t work for anyo=
ne =E2=80=93 and it hasn=E2=80=99t.
National strongly campaigned on putting control for industry training back =
into the heart of communities and that is what we are delivering today.=C2=
=A0
=C2=A0
With over 250,000 students in the system each year, this shift will make vo=
cational training more flexible, financially sustainable, and job relevant.
=C2=A0
Our decision restores regional decision-making in the Polytech sector to be=
tter support local industry, strong communities and economic growth.=C2=A0
=C2=A0
National is laser focused on growing the economy to create jobs and lift wa=
ges. A key part of that is ensuring NZ has a skilled workforce. Regional po=
lytechnics not only develop our workforce for the future, they also employ =
a number of people in the regions.=C2=A0
=C2=A0
We're rebuilding vocational education, so it works better- for learners, fo=
r businesses, and for New Zealand=E2=80=99s future.
