An ICE raid on a pot farm in California epitomized the national debate on immigration. The White House’s economic agenda is beginning to pay dividends.

It was an eventful week in Texas. President Trump visited the Lone Star State to survey the destruction wrecked by flash floods. The upcoming midterm elections took riveting plot twists as the state legislature prepared to reconvene. 

We break it down below.

An ICE raid on a California pot farm went viral this week after Gov. Gavin Newsom posted footage of the operation. It was a calculated choice by the presidential hopeful, but boy is he bad at math. 

ICE agents apprehended 10 minors at the facility; all of them are illegal aliens and 8 of them are unaccompanied minors. This weed growing operation violated both immigration and child labor laws, a move very on brand for a farm already facing a class-action lawsuit for other illegal labor practices. 

The ICE agents who conducted the sting had a gun drawn on them, and their vehicles pelted with rocks and projectiles. Liberal pundits labeled ICE’s presence in LA as an “invasion,” a term they oddly reserve for federal law enforcement, but not military-aged foreign nationals or illegal indentured child laborers. Friendly reminder that California enforced Covid-lockdowns for American citizens by way of police in helicopters.

Newsom’s flawed political calculus didn’t stop there. The Palisades, a once-affluent neighborhood prior to being ravaged by wildfire ~6 months ago, is not going to be rebuilt as it was, but will absorb a massive state-forced and funded (to the tune of $101M) low income housing project. Champagne socialists are discovering the hard way NIMBY’ism is only sustainable with a certain voting record. 

Numerous significant international trade deals are reportedly fluid, but close to being finalized. The inflation index has dropped to 1.66%. The economic policies of the Biden administration weakened the purchasing power of the dollar by ~25%(!!) over 4 years, but a course reversal appears imminent. 

The economy is growing so quickly, and the White House is so bullish this will continue to be the case that they’re posting memes from official government accounts to take a victory lap. Fingers crossed.

• President Trump is considering assuming federal authority over Washington DC–a federally operated district under the Constitution. 

• A game changing mine for American manufacturing has been revealed in Wyoming, which contains an abundance (1.7M tons) of rare earth minerals. Domestic reserves like this haven’t been found in over 70 years. This is not a meme, but a prophecy.  

• Don’t trust any calls you get this week from Marco Rubio.

• University of Houston grads may need to retroactively update their diplomas if this socialist professor has his way.

• TSA has announced air-travelers will no longer have to remove their shoes at security checkpoints. 20 years of inconvenience (thanks to this guy) got the boot.

• Democrat officials continue to learn their immigration policies ultimately result in proverbially letting the wolf into the henhouse. 

• Hoping the French President won’t see or sue us over this, but presented without comment. 

• El Chapo’s son is between a rock and a hard place.

• Houston’s own Derrick Lewis, a heavyweight, record breaking UFC knockout artist, got a phone call from President Trump after his Saturday night victory. Siri, play “Tops Drop” by Fat Pat.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett [D-TX-30] of course managed to somehow make the tragedy about her. 

President Trump’s trip comes on the heels of a formal decision to re-district the electoral map for the House of Representatives in Texas. This process could have huge ramifications. If the state GOP draws a new map strategically, it could erode three Dem seats in the House. If the map overextends itself the process could backfire biblically. 

The redistricting endeavor threw the literal landscape of the Texan Congressional Delegation into chaos; but the lower chamber of Congress wasn’t alone when it came to plot twists. TX AG Ken Paxton, who is engaged in a dogfight of a campaign against incumbent Senior Senator John Cornyn, revealed he and his wife of 38 years are divorcing. 

Paxton proved to be a prolific fundraiser this past fiscal quarter, amassing ~$2.9M in his war chest, but the ramifications of (albeit a deeply personal and private split we will not scrutinize further) of ending a marriage may well play out in interesting fashion. 

While all this was transpiring, Gov. Abbott revealed some details surrounding the special legislative session he’s calling (details here) shortly.
