Hi James,

Senate Republicans are planning to vote next week on an unpopular bill
that would approve the Trump Administration’s cuts to vital programs. This
bill would:

* Cut $1+ billion from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the
non-profit that provides funding for NPR and PBS. This cut will hit
small, rural, and community broadcasting particularly hard.
* Cut $8 billion from US global assistance, including funding for the
government’s lifesaving HIV/AIDS relief program, UNICEF, child
vaccination, and more.

Since this funding was already approved by Congress, passing this bill
would also threaten *all* future government funding agreements by setting
the precedent that one party can reverse anything that a bipartisan
majority approves.

Fortunately, this bill has drawn some concern from Senate Republicans.
Specific foreign aid programs have long enjoyed bipartisan support, and
senators know their rural constituents rely on public broadcasting for
things like emergency alerts.

So there’s a real chance to stop these funding cuts and protect important
programs that inform the public and save lives here in America and around
the world.

Public Citizen, Free Press, Our Revolution, Popular Democracy, Partners in
Health, Coalition for Human Needs, and Health GAP are hosting a virtual
town hall on Monday ahead of the Senate vote.

At the town hall, you’ll learn about the real impacts of the cuts from
directly affected people, experts (including Rep. Jim McGovern), and
on-the-ground video.

And you’ll have an opportunity to make your voice heard and pressure
senators to vote *NO* when this bill comes up for a vote.
