Dear
Friend,
In case you
missed it in the media this morning, we’ve just released the 2025
Rates Dashboard comparing this year's rate hikes for councils
across the country.
You can see
how your local council compares at RatesDashboard.nz.
You can
sort the Dashboard by council, 2025 rates, or 3-year cumulative rates
increases.
Click
here to see how your council compares.

EXPOSED:
Average rates bill up one-third in three years 🤯
The
dashboard exposes that the average council rates increase for
2025 is 8.39 percent. That compares to annual inflation of
just 2.5 percent!
Worse
still, cumulatively, over the last three years, the average
rates bill is up an incredible 34.52 percent.
Over that
timeframe, inflation has been just 13.7 percent.
That means
that since the last council elections, council rates have gone up more
than two and a half times inflation.
The numbers
are so wild that Stats NZ has cited council rates as a key driver of
inflation and the costs of living. These figures show why we need
to Cap
Rates Now!
Protest
this Wednesday outside LGNZ conference @ Christchurch Convention
Centre
Rather than just stand by, we need to do
something.
We want to
force the Government to adopt an Australian or UK-style Rates Cap so
council rates cannot go higher than inflation without a
referendum.
We’re gathering outside the Local Government New Zealand
(LGNZ) conference at 11am this Wednesday ("Te Pae” – Christchurch
Convention Centre).
If you're
in Canterbury, please come along. We’re expecting to hear from
the Minister of Local Government and local civic
leaders (the Christchurch Mayor is also backing a cap on council
rates).
Thank you
for your support.

Ps.
Friend, as we saw with the Stop Three Waters campaign, only with
massive people power can we win against the local government ‘blob’.
Please come along, show your support, (even make or bring a ‘Cap Rates
Now’ sign). We can win
this, but only with your support.
