I recently pressed Trump’s Secretary of Education on a simple question:

Why are we gutting programs that work?

Connecticut’s magnet schools — like Groton’s Marine Science Magnet High — are some of the best in the country. They give working-class and middle-class kids access to a world-class education. And yet, the new MAGA-backed budget zeroes out magnet school funding. That’s a $149 million cut.

Meanwhile, they’re handing out tax breaks to hedge funds and private jet owners.

Trump claims that his administration is targeting waste, fraud, and abuse — but these cuts will damage Connecticut’s reputation as one of the best states in the country for public education.
