[link removed] [[link removed]] Dear Friend,
When I launched our campaign for Governor, I promised we would have real conversations — beyond politics as usual. I am clear minded on this–my job is to show up, listen, and fight for you. That’s how I’ve served as your Attorney General, and that’s how I’ll serve as your Governor.
So after we asked you for your input a few weeks ago, I sat down to read your thoughts and concerns, hundreds of them. Your input matters to me and our campaign. I enjoyed it, absorbed it, and was energized by it. Here are some highlights.
Protecting Our Democratic Republic
Once again, the vast majority of you are concerned about threats to our democratic republic. As one said plainly, “Our nation is in serious jeopardy.” Others voiced fears about whether we can hold onto the rule of law. I want you to know that I will remain steadfast in my commitment to protecting our Constitution and safeguarding the rule of law, our democracy, and Colorado.
Federal Budget Cuts and Their Impact on Colorado
Many of you worry about looming federal budget cuts to Medicaid, emergency response to disasters like wildfires, energy assistance, and food programs, and how they will harm Colorado. And this feedback was before the passage of the Big Bad Bill that will do just that. I hear you loud and clear that you are against dismantling AmeriCorps which you praised for its “remarkable and irreplaceable work in low-income communities.” These cuts pose a real threat, and I am committed to fighting them every way I can — as I have done as your Attorney General — to protect Colorado.
Addressing Polarization
You shared your worries about the divisiveness in our nation between “two separate tribes with two distinct sources of information and truth.” As one of you suggested, and I agree, we need to focus on our shared values and concerns across urban and rural communities, young and old, and other potential divides. As another person said, we must stand for vision and hope. I am committed to standing with you to rise above division and polarization.
Building a Thriving Colorado
This sentiment came through powerfully, as stated in one response, “everyone deserves a chance to live a life of accomplishment and joy, not just people who have all the money and power.” My vision is a Colorado where you and your family can live safely and securely, and afford a home, health care and child care when and if you need it. And where you can access quality education, find meaningful work, and start and build a business if you want. I heard from some that our future should include “building a ton of housing.” My vision for a greater Colorado takes all of that in, for a future where everyone has an opportunity to thrive.
Our future depends on the right leadership for this moment. I lead now, and will as Governor, by showing up, listening, and delivering results. That’s why we have invested in listening–through these surveys, at community events from Montrose to Fort Morgan, and on your doorsteps.
To support this kind of leadership, can you chip in today to keep this grassroots campaign moving forward?
