John,
Trump has signed into law a Big Betrayal Budget, passed by my Republican colleagues in Congress, which will kick 17 million Americans off their health care—including over 450,000 people in Michigan.
I voted against Republicans’ bill to steal food and health care from our communities while sending trillions of dollars in tax cuts and giveaways to their corporate donors and the 0.1%.
I will keep fighting back to block Trump and his billionaire friends from lining their pockets while seniors, people with disabilities, and working families are left behind.
Watch this short video on five things you need to know about the Big Ugly Bill, then help me fight back by chipping in what you can today.
Republicans in Congress claim we don’t have the money for food assistance or life-saving health care. But they have no problem voting to send an additional $150 billion to weapons manufacturers and endless war, even though the Pentagon has failed 7 audits in a row.
And they’re sending $170 billion to ICE agents who are terrorizing our communities and illegally disappearing our neighbors for profit. Together we will keep fighting back against the racist dehumanization, abuse, and incarceration of our immigrant neighbors.
I will keep speaking up about how this bill is an act of violence against our communities, and I will keep blocking right-wing assaults on our lives and our rights.
Alongside grassroots movements, I’m fighting for a government for the people—not just the rich and powerful. Unlike most Congressmembers, I don’t take a dime from corporate PACs. I’m introducing policies to make sure my colleagues in Congress serve their constituents rather than their stock portfolios or their corporate donors.
Will you join me in the urgent fight against these right-wing attacks? Please chip into my campaign today to help build a true democracy without corporate and billionaire influence in politics.

Thank you. I will keep lifting up your voice in Congress, speaking out against assaults on our communities, and demanding better from our government.
I offered amendments to the budget reconciliation bill to highlight what a Congress truly focused on putting people first could do, including:
-
No Health Care Cuts for Moms and Babies, which would preserve Medicaid coverage for prenatal and postnatal care, and prevent any cuts to health care in the bill from taking effect if the infant mortality rate increases. I’ll continue pushing for health equity and quality care to end the maternal and infant mortality crisis.
-
No Money for Pentagon Waste, which would prevent any more funds going to the Pentagon until it can actually pass an audit. I keep reminding my colleagues that it’s failed audits 7 years in a row.
-
No More Aid to Billionaires and End Child Poverty, which struck the text of the bill and inserted our End Child Poverty Act, which would establish a universal child assistance program with monthly payments from birth.
-
No Cuts to the CFPB, an amendment that would prevent the cuts to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau contained in the bill from taking effect if the bill results in tax cuts for the rich and large corporations.
-
No Money for Polluters, which inserted our Cumulative Impacts Act to prevent the sale of any oil, coal, or gas leases until every sale has undergone a cumulative impact analysis. This would be a major environmental justice win, and I’ll keep fighting for it.
-
Expand, Don’t Restrict, Medicaid, which inserted our Auto Insurance Relief Act to require payments for car insurance to be considered when determining eligibility for federal benefits or assistance.
I also cosponsored dozens of amendments to stop SNAP cuts and Medicaid red tape requirements for seniors, prohibit the separation of families and the deportation of pregnant women, and block ICE from wearing masks and entering our schools, churches, hospitals, nursing homes, and child care centers.
These are ongoing fights, and I promise I will not back down in the face of this cruelty and fascism.
Help me fight back by chipping in $5 or more today.
Thank you so much for fighting for a better world alongside me.
With you in this fight,
Rashida

John,
I voted HELL NO on Trump and Republicans’ Big Budget Betrayal—our country’s largest-ever upward transfer of wealth from poor and working people to billionaires.
I will continue to do everything in my power to put working people first and defend our communities from the GOP’s fascist assault on our rights.
We will not stand by or be silent as working families are sacrificed to make the rich richer. We won’t let billionaires, for-profit detention centers, or weapons corporations profit off of dehumanizing and hurting our neighbors.
We’re calling out Republicans’ budget for what it is: a deadly budget, with the largest cut to Medicaid and health care in our country’s history. This will lead to the unnecessary deaths of over 50,000 people every year. Republicans are also taking food out of the mouths of hungry kids, seniors, and people with disabilities by cutting hundreds of billions of dollars in nutrition assistance.
If Republicans really cared about waste, they’d start with the Pentagon—which hasn’t passed an audit in seven years. Instead they’re sending hundreds of billions of our taxpayer dollars to the Pentagon and ICE, most of which will go to corporations profiting off our pain.
Unlike most U.S. Congressmembers, I don’t take money from corporate PACs or AIPAC. I’m demanding our government spend taxpayer dollars on what the people need, including universal health care and monthly child assistance payments.
If you agree that we need a real democracy, not an authoritarian regime governed by billionaires, watch this short video then donate today to power the struggle against Republicans’ policy violence. Together we’re more powerful than the corporations and billionaires trying to silence us.
All Democrats in Congress voted against this budget reconciliation bill, and all but 3 Republicans voted for it.
Cuts to Medicaid will start January 2027—after the 2026 mid-term elections. All SNAP recipients will see a 15% reduction going into effect in October 2027 (and keep in mind: the average SNAP recipient already only gets $6 a day).
These health and nutrition cuts will affect tens of millions of Americans. In my state these cuts will block access to health care for 450,000 Michiganders and cut off 300,000 Michiganders from food assistance.
Because these cuts won’t really start impacting people directly until after the mid-term elections, it’s up to us right now to let voters know what was in this disastrous budget package and how they’ll be affected.
It’s important to note that grassroots efforts and our pushes within Congress did have an impact. We successfully fought back against some harmful parts of this bill that were then excluded from the final version.
But what Trump signed into law is 900 pages of cruelty that will hurt seniors, working families, our immigrant neighbors, and other vulnerable communities. I will not stop telling the American people what is in this disastrous bill. For example:
The top 0.1% (the Elon Musks and Jeff Bezos of the world) stand to gain over $300,000 on average in 2027 alone. That’s $847 a day. People who make over a million dollars a year will get about $100,000 per year or $264 per day. If you make $50,000 like a lot of teachers and frontline workers, you’re going to get 68 cents per day—but once people are cut off from necessary care, increasing out-of-pocket health and nutrition costs, even that 68 cents a day will vanish.
Even though the Pentagon hasn’t passed an audit for seven years in a row, Republicans increased the Pentagon budget (what I call the war machine budget) by $150 billion. At least half of this will go to for-profit weapons corporations.
At the same time, Republicans increased ICE funding by $170 billion, while ICE agents violently kidnap and disappear our neighbors. The budget for ICE is now a staggering $38 billion per year, making ICE the single largest federal law enforcement agency in our history, and larger than almost all the world’s militaries.
As a former immigration lawyer and the daughter of immigrants, I will keep fighting back against ICE’s illegal violations of human rights, including the right to due process. And I’ll keep demanding an end to war and genocide, instead making sure our government invests in what our communities need to survive and thrive.
Can you chip in today to fuel our progressive fight in Congress against the pro-death GOP agenda?
