A note from from Mayor Brian Turnbull...

** DEAR NORTHVILLE,
------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to Summer! The solstice with its longest daylight was Sunday 6/20, as Northville’s downtown transitioned into its Summer Social District that brought rave reviews from the Detroit media. And a lot was going on – all the Restaurants on Main Street serving open air tables, bands playing in the background & retailers displaying their wares in a festive environment up and down the street. The buzz is outstanding. And this week, Center Street joined in the Social District activities, becoming a walking pedestrian mall, too. The beautification Commission also spruced up the downtown with flowers just before the opening.
I’ve received dozens of calls from citizens expressing praise for this move, but also a few speaking about concerns… yes, we’ll have a bit more traffic on our surface streets; yes, it will slow our progress through downtown; and yes, it will be a bit louder. But I truly believe, just as the DDA voted unanimously to bring this action to Council (who also voted unanimously to approve), this new Social District will reinvigorate our downtown businesses. The benefits for our city (and for each & every one of us) far outweigh these inconveniences. I for one, support this festive, active seasonal event. It’s up to all of us to experience it first-hand… Northville received valuable recognition from the press for doing this, and in this spirit, I ask everyone to get behind this unique move & support our newly-revived downtown activity.
* VIRTUAL TOWN HALL IS THURSDAY JUNE 25^TH (7:00 PM) – We’ll go online to answer questions. I’m sure the new downtown “social district” will be top of mind. Also, our special guest will be Colleen Pobur, District Director for U.S. Congresswoman Haley Stevens (Haley is in session in DC). Also, local business owner Laura Genitti will be joining the Town Hall with her perspectives.
* Please use this link to join the Town Hall (June 25 @ 7PM): [link removed]
* Western Wayne County Mayors & Police Chiefs will attend a Listening Tour to hear residents’ perspectives on demonstrations and police policies (1^st one is 6/24 in Livonia).
* FAR (Floor Area Ratio) as approved by the Planning Commission at .36 is moving on to Council for review in July.
* Take the Master Plan Survey!
+ Help shape the City of Northville's future by taking a survey about the Master Plan. The survey will help guide the redevelopment of the Racetrack, Cady St./Cady Town, and south Center St. The Planning Commission wants your input into how we live, work and play there. Complete your survey online today ([link removed]) . ([link removed])

Highlights:
* Michigan Schools can reopen this fall – Return to School Roadmap will be published on 6/30.
* The Governors extended Michigan’s “State of Emergency” until 7/16 for federal support (not to be confused with the stay @ home order earlier lifted).
* State Executive orders still requires wearing of face coverings while inside public enclosed areas.

* In Northern Michigan, outdoor crowds approved to 250, indoor – 50, outdoor performance & sporting events – 500. We’re getting there!
* COVID-19: Northville has had 42 cases/7 fatalities. Michigan 68K/6K & the Nation 2.4M/124K. Testing & contact tracing continues. This is a marathon, not a sprint!
* We will transition to the “New Norm,” as it relates to our work, socializing & spacing. My commitment to you is to keep you connected & safe, while having open communication.
* City Hall will be open AFTER the 4^th of July, but all services are still available remotely.
* SEE NORTHVILLE CITY NEWS ON THE CITY WEB SITE FOR MORE DETAILS …

ON ACTIONS
* I thank all those who have shared their time & talents in these unprecedented times – now it’s time to move forward together into our future.
* Excuse our dust – there are 14 City Road Projects underway (some infrastructure dating back to 1895), certain surface lots are being redone & Wayne County worked with us to mill and repave Sheldon Road from 7 Mile to 6 Mile. We are moving forward!

Get out & enjoy the Summer… it’s up to us to assist Northville to re-engage.
Be safe, and continue to Keep that Northville Faith!
Stay #NorthvilleStrong!

Brian Turnbull
