![]() John, this shouldn’t be controversial to say: $7.25 an hour is too damn low. Every single one of our neighboring states has raised the minimum wage for their workers. Maryland and Delaware are at $15. New York and New Jersey are over $15. Ohio is at $10.70. West Virginia is at $8.75. It is long past time for Pennsylvania to catch up.
As the cost of living has increased for all of us over the last 16 years, our minimum wage has been frozen in time at $7.25 an hour. That’s below the federal poverty line. It’s an embarrassment to our state, and an insult to Pennsylvania workers. Raising the wage is just common sense, John. It will make our economy more competitive. And it will put more money in Pennsylvanians’ pockets. There’s no good reason not to do it.
