You are a critical part of this team, so I think it’s only right that you’re clued in on a small but important detail about our campaign.
Have you ever noticed the Zia sun symbol within our official campaign logo?
This sun symbol originated from the Zia Pueblo.
This symbol probably looks familiar to fellow New Mexicans. It’s called the Zia sun, and can be found on our state flag, on license plates, in the state Capitol building, and more. It’s an iconic emblem that New Mexicans are proud of.
Our beautiful state flag is emblazoned with the iconic Zia sun.
But there’s a deeper meaning behind the Zia sun that I think you should know. It’s a sacred symbol to the Indigenous people of Zia Pueblo. To Zia Pueblo, four is a sacred number that symbolizes the Circle of Life: four winds, four seasons, four directions, and four sacred obligations. The circle binds the four elements of four together. We should all learn and respect the history of the Zia sun as we celebrate its beauty and significance to our state.
Today, our strong desert sun is just as important to our future as it was to our Indigenous ancestors. The New Mexico sunshine is the engine behind our breathtaking natural landscapes, vibrant agriculture economy, and a source of power for thousands of our homes. But I know we can do more.
As governor, I’ll continue to fight for smart investments in solar energy development that addresses climate change while creating good-paying union jobs in our state.
While I was Secretary of the Interior, our Administration accelerated solar energy development across the West.
From issues like climate change to education and housing affordability, we must be fierce enough to face tough challenges and fight for a bright future for all. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and change the game for New Mexico, but I can’t win this campaign without your help. We’ll need a lot of resources to organize across our state and speak with voters about our ambitious plans for the future, so I have to ask:
Be fierce,
Deb ☀️
P.S. My grandmother taught me to wake up every morning, greet the sun, and say a prayer to welcome that spirit into your life. If you agree we must embrace the power of our New Mexico sunshine as we build a bright future for our state, can you chip in $5 so we can win this race?
