Today is the anniversary of the EU referendum in 2016

Can you believe it's been 4 years already? Does it seem like a lifetime ago? It does for me. The original question has been decided, we have already left the EU. That's not the outcome I wanted but now the important thing is to come together and make sure we look after our future.

The government has the opportunity now to extend transition and agree the best deal for us with the EU. But they seem to be refusing to tackle just one crisis at a time.

We’ve all had time stolen by COVID. Everyone has had their lives set off course by this unexpected and unprecedented pandemic, some much more than others. And adding another crisis in December would make it worse for us all.

In the 4 years since the referendum there have been so many red lines, so many threats to walk away from negotiations and so much wasted opportunity.

MPs are looking to the future. So are we. MPs everywhere, no matter what party they belong to, are looking at the way this government is handling the current crisis and they need to consider how adding another crisis will affect their constituents.

MPs need to hear from their constituents now - that's your friends and family. People need time to recover before another destabilizing force rocks the boat. They need time to get their life back on course.

If we can’t get that, we at least can fight for some reassurance about our future. We can fight to get the best deal for Britain.
