Welcome Back Image
*Nottingham reopens safely*

Nottingham has begun the process of safely reopening the city and local centres to more people as lock down restrictions are eased and new arrangements are put in place to make it possible. The Nottingham Economic Recovery Unit (NERU), led by the City Council, is working with the *Nottingham Business Improvement District* [ [link removed] ] (BID), retailers and other local businesses to ensure the city centre and neighbourhood shopping areas can successfully start to reopen.

New posters across the city centre welcoming people back adorn the Council House and shops, floor markings urging people to keep left have been put in place to help maintain social distancing and new bins are in the city centre to prevent people having to touch the handles. Working Safely During COVID-19

The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) Regulations 2020 have imposed closures or restrictions on business activities since March. As these restrictions begin to be lifted, the government have issued guidance for businesses on how to re-open or trade safely to reduce the risks associated with COVID-19, this is available *on the Gov.uk website* [ [link removed] ]. [ [link removed] ]

Businesses have been instructed to prepare a risk assessment for COVID-19, which forms part of their legal duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. The Safer Business Team at Nottingham City Council are able to assist businesses who are open or in the process of re-opening by advising on government guidance.

HS2: Opportunities for supply chain SMEs

You may have read recently that Phase One of High Speed Two has been given Notice to Proceed by the Government, which means that the main construction work for the section of route between London and the West Midlands can begin. This is a major step forward for the project and will bring an estimated 400,000 supply chain contract opportunities for UK businesses for this phase alone. Around two thirds of these businesses are expected to be small and medium sized.

The National Infrastructure Commission is still undertaking its review of Phase 2b of the Project, known as the Integrated Rail Plan. However, as *this map* [ [link removed] ] shows, there are already businesses from across the UK that have won work so far as part of these supply chain opportunities, including with the Phase 2b communities.

How to get involved:

*Work With Us Wednesdays*are a series of short, weekly webinars starting on *24 June [ [link removed] ]*and running into August 2020to help local businesses navigate the HS2 supply chain and better understand some of the things that we are looking for from suppliers.

At each event attendees will hear from a different expert speaker and take part in a Q&A session to learn more.

Register to attend and find out more on the *dedicated HS2 events page* [ [link removed] ].
