Hi John,
Port workers in Illinois need your help.
Port workers at QSL have been on strike since May, after employees repeatedly reported dangerous working conditions at Iroquois Landing, a major port for international shipping and cargo near Chicago.
These cargo and shipping workers have also experienced wage theft and a hostile work environment. They have experienced relentless electronic surveillance by their own company, in a blatant attempt at intimidation and union-busting.
Speak out in solidarity with Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 150, and tell QSL to focus on worker safety, not worker intimidation.
Safety concerns about QSL extend far beyond Illinois. In April, QSL dock worker Darius Clement went missing while working an overnight shift on a wharf in New Orleans. It has been almost three months, yet QSL still will not acknowledge its role in Clement’s disappearance, even when pressed by the media and community members.
This incident raises serious concerns about how much QSL values the safety of all of its employees, especially given its hostility to concerns raised by employees at Iroquois Landing.
QSL could choose to work with port workers and Local 150, who could advocate for and suggest necessary changes that would help create a fair and secure work environment. But QSL refuses to do so. That’s why we’re calling on the executives of QSL and its parent companies, CDPQ and iCON Infrastructure, to stop their union-busting tactics and focus on keeping workers safe.
Join us in telling QSL: Stop union-busting, and respect workers’ rights and safety!
Thank you for all you do,
Team AFL-CIO
