John,
Have you seen Andy in the news? He’s making it very clear how angry he is at Republicans who voted for Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill, and how disappointed he is in Republican governors for not speaking out about the harm this bill will do to their states.
This bill will decimate rural healthcare, close rural hospitals, kick millions of Americans off of their health coverage, costs thousands and thousands of jobs, and blow an enormous hole in every state budget. It defies logic that the very leaders whose states will be devastated by these cuts are staying silent or standing in support of this bill.
Andy is a Democratic governor in a red state; he understands party politics as well as anyone. He also knows that he wasn’t elected by a party; he was elected by the people of Kentucky, and fighting for the people you serve is the only thing leaders should care about.
So why are Republican governors in red states so quiet about the devastating effects of Trump’s Big, Ugly Bill?
Every Republican governor in these rural states knows their state budget can’t cover the cost of these massive cuts. But they are too afraid of Trump and their own party to speak up.
Here's what we have to say about that: For every GOP governor that chooses party loyalty over their own constituents, we have a Democratic candidate ready to run against you.
