On Friday, Governor Walz announced a Minnesota Task Force 1 (MN TF1) K-9 unit is traveling to assist in search and recovery efforts following deadly flooding in central Texas. MN TF1 is one of the state’s two urban search and rescue teams which can assist with structural collapse, heavy rescue, wide-area search, trench rescue, confined space rescue, rope rescue and advanced medical care.
"In the wake of unprecedented flooding, communities in Texas are dealing with heartbreaking loss and destruction," said Governor Walz. "As search and recovery missions continue, I’m incredibly grateful to our Minnesota Force 1 K-9 Unit for stepping up and traveling to assist our neighbors in this time of tragedy."
On Tuesday, Governor Walz authorized the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs to activate the State Soldiers Assistance Disaster Relief Program. This financial assistance will help veterans and their families recover from the recent severe storms impacting Beltrami County.
"Beltrami County has faced incredible hardship in the wake of these storms, and we continue to stand alongside Minnesotans impacted — including our veterans and their families," said Governor Walz. "This order ensures veterans have access to the support they’ve earned as recovery continues across the region."
Governor Walz released the following statement following the passage of the "One Big Beautiful Bill" in Congress.
"Tom Emmer, Pete Stauber, Michelle Fischbach, and Brad Finstad just voted to tear health care away from a quarter million Minnesotans, raise Minnesotans’ household energy bills by 28%, and cut food support for the most vulnerable Minnesotans - all so Trump can give tax cuts to billionaires," said Governor Walz. "We will do everything we can to help Minnesotans impacted by their decision, but we’ll never fully reverse the damage they’ve caused."
