Working for New Jersey:

Highlighting the Impact of Medicaid Cuts on Families and Hospitals, Fighting Type 1 Diabetes, and Working to Fund Community Projects

HIGHLIGHTING THE IMPACT OF MEDICAID CUTS ON FAMILIES AND HOSPITALS:

Trump and Republican cuts to Medicaid, known as NJ Family Cares in New Jersey, will negatively impact communities across the entire state. It will take time to fully feel this exact impact, but make no mistake: hospitals, nursing homes, and healthcare providers are preparing for these cuts now.

Here are just some ways we can expect to see NJ families affected:

  • 350,000 eligible New Jerseyans will lose their coverage. That’s 1 out of every 5 covered residents.
  • $3.3 billion cut from hospitals and public health. Hospitals, as a result, may need to cut staff, services, or even shut down entirely.
  • $360 million cut from the state budget due to restrictions in federal funding.

FIGHTING TYPE 1 DIABETES:

Senator Kim met with children from New Jersey who were in DC attending the Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes Children’s Congress, a biennial event that brings children living with Type 1 Diabetes to the Capitol to meet with decision-makers.

The Senator told Ainsley, a patient living in Belmar, NJ, that she is his boss. We’ll always fight for her and anyone managing diabetes. We must ensure insulin is affordable for all and develop more medical research and innovation to ease their fight.

Reflecting on Our Broken Politics after the Passage of Trump's Big Disastrous Bill, Fighting to Protect Foreign Assistance and Public Broadcasting, and Working to Advance the U.S. Strategic Partnership with Kosovo

REFLECTING ON OUR BROKEN POLITICS AFTER THE PASSAGE OF TRUMP’S BIG DISASTROUS BILL:

After the passage of Trump’s Big Disastrous Bill, it’s clear we need to fix our broken politics.

Senator Kim reflected on the passage of this bill and the 27-hour marathon voting session:

“Just the fact that we had a bill of this consequence and nobody in the Senate had the chance to see the final version... There were so many changes, so many last-minute deals that were made whether to appease certain Republican senators or others. How is this how we’re governing? How is this how we’re making some of the most important decisions that are going to have generational impact and frankly do generational harm?”

Watch the Senator’s full reflection and share it here.

FIGHTING TO PROTECT FOREIGN ASSISTANCE AND PUBLIC BROADCASTING:

Just a week after Republicans passed the largest cuts to health care in our nation’s history in order to give tax cuts to billionaires, Trump is trying to claw back already promised funds and take more away from the American people.

Trump and House Republicans are proposing over $9 billion in cuts to foreign assistance like USAID and public broadcasting, such as PBS and NPR, in a process known as “rescissions.” These cuts will take money away that Congress has already allocated. This week and next, the Senate will be taking up this rescissions bill, and we must do everything we can to stop it.

Senator Kim stated, “This is an overreach of executive power” and an incredibly dangerous precedent to set.

Watch him explain what rescissions is and what is at stake.

WORKING TO ADVANCE THE U.S. STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP WITH KOSOVO:

This week, Senator Kim met with President Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu to discuss how the U.S. can advance our partnership with Kosovo on key strategic issues, including enhancing security in the Western Balkans, countering Chinese and Russian influence in the region, and finding areas for economic collaboration.
